Homemade Apple Crisp
INGREDIENTS:
For the Apple Filling:
6 cups peeled, cored, and sliced apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon lemon juice
For the Crisp Topping:
1 cup old-fashioned oats
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and set aside.
In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are evenly coated, then transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading it out into an even layer.
In the same bowl (no need to wash it), combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, baking powder, and baking soda. Add the cubed butter and use your fingers or a pastry cutter to work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the apples in the baking dish.
Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbling.
Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm, topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
