INGREDIENTS:

2 sticks cold unsalted butter cut into cubes

4 large egg yolks

1 teaspoon salt

8 ounces evaporated milk

4 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Powdered sugar to serve

Peanut oil vegetable oil or similar, for frying

DIRECTIONS:

Put the flour in a bowl and stir in the salt.
Use a pastry cutter or large fork to cut in the butter until the mixture is sand-like and crumbly.
Beat the egg yolks in a different bowl until they are foamy.
Add the vanilla and milk to the flour.
Add the egg mixture to the flour.
Stir until you get a dough.
Lightly flour your work surface then turn out the dough and knead it for 30 seconds.
Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces.
Roll each piece into a rectangle, ¼-inch thick.
Now cut the rectangles into 1½-inch strips.
Cut a 2-inch slit down the center of each strip then pull one end through the hole so you end up with a bow shape.
Heat a couple of inches of oil in a deep frying pan, then fry the dough bows in batches until golden.
Drain on a paper towel-lined plate and allow to cool.
Dust them with powdered sugar just before serving.
