Easy Homemade Tacos
INGREDIENTS:
For the Taco Filling:
1 lb (450g) ground beef (or your choice of protein)
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon paprika (smoked paprika adds a nice touch)
1/2 teaspoon oregano
Salt and pepper to taste
1/2 cup tomato sauce or salsa
1/2 cup water
For Serving:
8-10 taco shells (hard or soft according to preference)
Shredded lettuce
Diced tomatoes
Shredded cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, or a blend)
Sour cream
Guacamole or diced avocados
Fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)
Lime wedges (optional)
Sliced jalapeños (optional for extra heat)
DIRECTIONS:
Preparing the Taco Filling:
Cook the Meat: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon, until it’s no longer pink. Drain any excess fat.
Add Aromatics: Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef. Cook until the onions are soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
Season: Sprinkle the chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper over the meat mixture. Stir well to evenly coat the meat with the spices.
Simmer: Add the tomato sauce and water to the skillet. Stir well to combine. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 10-15 minutes, or until most of the liquid has evaporated and the mixture is thick. Adjust seasoning to taste …
