Chicken Fried Steak
Chicken Fried Steak is a classic southern dish that has been around for generations, these steaks are made with a pounded thin cube steak that is tenderized and then dredged in a seasoned flour mixture.
INGREDIENTS:
4 tenderized cube steak
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. kosher salt
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. smoked paprika
1 tsp. black pepper
2 Eggs, room temperature, beaten
GRAVY:
1 Tbsp. butter
2 Tbsp. flour
2 cups of chicken stock
2 Tbsp. heavy cream
Salt and pepper to taste
DIRECTIONS:
Using a large skillet over medium heat. add 1/2-inch cooking oil.
Cook the oil until light bubbling occurs.
In a medium-sized bowl add your flour and in a separate bowl add your beaten eggs.
Dredge the cube steak into the flour, then into the egg, lightly press the flour mixture into the tenderized steak. Repeat the steps until well coated.
Place the steaks into the hot oil and fry each side for about 4 to 5 minutes.
Continue to cook until the steaks are a golden brown.
Remove the steaks and place to the side.
In a small skillet over medium heat, add the butter and stir till melted.
Add in the flour to the butter mixture and whisk for a few minutes.
Add the chicken stock to the flour mixture gradually, and whisk until the sauce thickens.
Drizzle gravy on top of the fried steak and serve with mashed potatoes.
