Caramel Apple Fritters
INGREDIENTS:
For the Fritters:
Apples (peeled, cored, and diced)
Caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
All-purpose flour
Baking powder
Sugar
Eggs
Milk
Cinnamon
Nutmeg
Salt
For the Caramel Sauce:
Granulated sugar
Butter
Heavy cream
Vanilla extract
Sea salt (optional)
DIRECTIONS:
Preparing the Caramel Sauce:
Combine Sugar and Butter: In a medium saucepan, heat granulated sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly until it melts and turns a golden brown color.
Add Butter: Carefully add butter to the melted sugar, whisking continuously until the mixture is smooth and combined.
Incorporate Cream: Slowly pour in the heavy cream while continuing to whisk. Be cautious, as the mixture will bubble up.
Finish with Vanilla: Stir in vanilla extract and a pinch of sea salt if desired. Allow the sauce to simmer for a few more minutes, then remove from heat and let cool.
Making the Fritters:
Prepare Apples: Dice your apples into small, bite-sized pieces. Set aside.
Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and mix in milk.
Combine: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Fold in the diced apples.
Heat Oil: In a frying pan or deep fryer, heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
Fry Fritters: Using a spoon, carefully drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Drizzle Caramel: Once the fritters are slightly cooled, drizzle with the prepared caramel sauce.
